Professor Stubben is a Professor of Accounting and Associate Dean for Faculty and Research. He has published research on topics related to financial accounting and reporting in The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, and other top accounting journals. He is currently a member of the editorial boards of five accounting journals, and he has recently received awards for his work on peer reviews from The Accounting Review and Journal of Accounting Research. Professor Stubben received the Wildman Award, awarded annually for the publication with the most significant contribution to the practice of accounting. He is frequently invited to present his research at conferences and universities around the world.
Professor Stubben has won teaching awards at the undergraduate, masters, and PhD levels. He works closely with PhD students, regularly chairing PhD dissertation committees. He served as Director of the Eccles School’s Accounting PhD Program from 2014 to 2019.
Professor Stubben enjoys working on issues related to financial accounting standards. He participates in annual conferences with the Financial Accounting Standards Board and has been a keynote speaker and chair of the conference planning committee.
Professor Stubben is actively involved in service within the University of Utah and in the profession. He is currently the President of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section of the American Accounting Association, which has about 1,500 members worldwide. He is regularly invited to give career advice to PhD students and new accounting faculty at national conferences.
