Upper Division Application

Thank you for your interest in pursuing a degree from the David Eccles School of Business. Following are instructions for application to Upper Division in the School of Business. Please review the information carefully to ensure your application receives full consideration.

Spring 2012 Deadline

The deadline for Spring 2012 submission was October 7, 2011.

To receive full consideration, a student should submit complete applications on or before the deadline. A late application will be considered on a space-available basis.

Spring 2012 Admission Criteria

Admission to Upper Division is restricted by capacity in the School of Business. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of coursework completed and grades in context of overall strength and nature of the applicant pool. The average GPA of the recently admitted student population is a 3.5.

Students must complete the following University of Utah coursework (or equivalent transfer credit) to receive full consideration. Students who are taking the last of the following courses in Fall 2011 should apply for Spring 2012 admission to Upper Division.

  • ACCTG 2600
  • BUS 1050
  • ECON 2010 or BUS 2010
  • IS 2010
  • MATH 1090 or 1050
  • OIS 2340


Students who are completing the last of the courses in Spring 2012 should wait to apply for Fall 2012 admission to Upper Division.

Spring 2012 Upper Division Orientation

Students admitted to Upper Division for Spring 2012 are expected to attend Upper Division orientation on October 25, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. Complete details regarding orientation will be included in students' Upper Division admission notification.

Spring 2012 Application Instructions

The spring 2012 application period is closed, please contact the Advising Office for more information.

  1. Generate a Degree Audit Report (DAR) using "Catalogue Year 2011-2012" and "BUADBS." Confirm that all six Pre-Business courses are complete (or in progress). If they are not, make an appointment with Business Advising to identify steps needed to have it corrected.
  2. Generate a Degree Audit Report (DAR) using "Catalogue Year 2011-2012" and "LIST." Confirm that all information is accurate and current. If it is not, make and appointment with Business Advising to identify steps needed to have it corrected.
  3. Complete the online Application for Admission to Upper Division. You will not be able to revisit your application so it is important that you are prepared at the time that you begin. 

Spring 2012 Decision Notification

Students who submit a complete application will be notified of the admissions decision at their University of Utah email address in time for Spring 2012 registration. The committee reserves the right to defer a decision until Fall 2011 grades are available.
