2015 Graduation Ceremonies
The University of Utah General Commencement is a campus-wide opening ceremony, kicking off many events across campus and serving as a collective celebration of the University community and the collective success and accomplishments of the graduating class. It will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. This year's commencement speaker is Bob McDonald MBA '78, Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Business School Convocation
Convocation for David Eccles School of Business will be held in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Friday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. Students graduating from the David Eccles School of Business will have degrees conferred during the Convocation ceremony.
Cap and Gown Orders
Student graduates can pay for and pick up graduation regalia at the University Bookstore's Grad Fair on March 26th-28th. See the University Campus Store Grad Fair page for additional information.
Please join the University of Utah Business Alumni Association as they host a Graduation Celebration for graduates and their families prior to the Convocation ceremony, at 5:00 p.m. on the Emma Eccles Jones Plaza directly outside the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building. Light refreshments will be served and graduates will have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments with family, friends, classmates, alumni, and faculty.
Graduates will be required to complete a “Reader Card” which will be used to announce your name during the ceremony and also provide contact information for the photographer. This card will be handed to the designated reader at the table during Convocation. Graduates, please make sure that this is completed before lining up or entering the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Line-up/Seating of Graduates
- Undergraduate Candidates should be ready in cap and gown by no later than 6:15 p.m. at the main entrance in front of the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building for the processional. Please look for your Department Flag (Accounting/Business Administration/Entrepreneurship/Finance/ Marketing/Management/Operations Management-Information Systems) and be prepared to be lined up behind your fellow students as the processional makes its way in to the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
- Master’s Candidates should be ready in cap and gown by no later than 6:15 p.m. at the main entrance in front of the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building for the processional. You will be lined up outside of the West tunnel to proceed into the arena.
- Doctoral Candidates (PhD) should be ready in cap and gown at by no later than 6:15 p.m. at the main entrance in front of the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building for the processional behind the Dean and Faculty, to make your way to the West tunnel entrance of the Jon M. Huntsman Center. You will be lined up inside the tunnel to proceed into the arena. Your hood should be folded and carried over an arm onto the stage where you will be hooded as part of the ceremony.
- If you do not participate in the processional from the School of Business, Undergraduates should meet the processional outside of the north side of the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Graduate students should meet at the entrance of the West tunnel entrance of the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Tickets are not required to attend Convocation, and seating will be on a first come/first serve basis. Any interested attendees are welcome. Guest seating is available in all sections and rows of the Jon Huntsman Center not already reserved for graduating students or for individuals with disabilities. The academic processional will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Families and guests should be seated prior to that time. Family members are not allowed to sit with the graduates. Staff members from the School of Business will be on hand to assist and provide programs for families. Maps will also be located throughout the Jon M. Huntsman Center to help your family, friends and guests locate seating closest to the section your major/program will be seated.
Special Seating and Accommodations
Students or guests with disabilities (including individuals in wheelchairs and those who have limited mobility) attending the David Eccles School of Business Convocation can request accommodations by contacting Jenny McConnell at firstname.lastname@example.org. We request that guests give reasonable prior notice and, since space is limited, plan to arrive early.
Campus parking lots with the exception of numbered reserved stalls may be used at no charge during Convocation. Families are encouraged to drop off elderly guests and those who cannot walk long distances in the Jon M. Huntsman Center circle before parking their cars. The closest parking to the Jon M. Huntsman Center is directly south in the LDS Institute lot. Guests may also park at the stadium parking lot, and shuttles will be trasnporting to and from the Huntsman Center.
A professional photographer has been authorized to photograph all graduates and will mail a color proof to each graduate. You are not obligated to purchase these photographs. Please note that guests may take photographs as well in designated areas only. They will not be allowed on the stage or in the areas marked for graduate reseating during the Convocation ceremony.
David Eccles School of Business Student Giving Cord
The Business Student Alumni Board gives red, black, and yellow Student Giving Cords to students who pledge their commitment to ensure the continual success of the David Eccles School of Business. Students who pledge to give $20 annually for 5 years after graduation or have given $100 or more as a student will receive these cords in recognition of their support. Diplomas will be mailed from the Office of the Registrar to student graduates within three months of graduation.
