Monty Botosan

Monty Botosan served as CFO for BioFire Diagnostics, Inc. (f/k/a Idaho Technology, Inc.) for 13 years. Monty joined the Company in 1999 when it was primarily an R&D company with 20 employees. During Monty’s tenure the Company expanded its operations more than tenfold. The Company achieved its growth by focusing on revenue streams in licensing, government contracting, OEM product manufacturing, and the development and sales of numerous innovative life science products including medical devices used in the identification and analysis of infectious diseases. Prior to joining BioFire, Mr. Botosan served for five years as Controller for Berco Industries, Inc., a contract furniture manufacturing company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri.  From 1986 to 1994, Mr. Botosan was an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand and lastly an Audit Manager at Deloitte and Touche, Chartered Accountants. Mr. Botosan was awarded his designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1990 and his Bachelor of Business Administration from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in 1985. As an adjunct lecturer, Mr. Botosan has taught classes in Strategic Cost Management for the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. 

Kent Bowman, Partner, Tanner, LLC

Kent Bowman serves a variety of public and private companies in the software, real estate, distribution, manufacturing, retail, technology, hospitality and transportation industries.  He has significant experience with SEC financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, multi-location engagements and corporate finance transactions.  Kent has assisted numerous clients with public and private debt and equity offerings, including initial and secondary public offerings.  Kent has expertise with ERISA and DOL rules and regulations. Kent Bowman received his Masters of Professional Accountancy degree with an emphasis in Taxation from the University of Utah.

Cleon Butterfield, Senior Vice President & CFO, Utah Housing Corporation

Cleon Butterfield is a Certified Public Accountant with extensive experience in public finance.  He is currently a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Utah Housing Corporation in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Utah Housing Corporation is a public corporation with over $2.1 billion of assets and over $92 million of gross revenues annually.  Utah Housing Corporation was created to assure an adequate source of capital for low to moderate income housing within the state of Utah.  The Utah Housing Corporation largely accomplishes its mandate through the continuous issuance of tax-exempt Mortgage Revenue Bonds.  Lee is the senior member of the executive management team.  His responsibilities include the managerial oversight for the Corporation’s treasury, debt management, accounting, financial analysis and ITS operations.  Cleon holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

David Chidester, Rees Capital

David Chidester  is Senior Vice President of Finance at MediConnect Global and is responsible for guiding the company’s financial strategy and operations, including financial reporting, planning and forecasting, treasury, capital management, as well as the design and implementation of system and operational improvements. David brings to the company more than 15 years of successful experience in accounting, finance and operations through all modes of development—from startup to mature, industry-leading companies. In 10-plus years at Overstock.com, including five as CFO, David helped direct the company’s finance operations as the company grew its annual revenues from just $2 million to almost $900 million. He was also involved in taking Overstock public, and in raising more than $400 million of capital through stock and debt offerings. A licensed CPA, David has a BS in accounting and an MBA from the University of Utah. He also currently serves as an advisory board member for the University of Utah School of Accounting.

Katina Curtis, Sr. Manager, Grant Thornton

Katina Curtis has nine years of public accounting and auditing experience, which includes experience in California, Canada and the Intermountain U.S. She is a senior manager in our assurance practice and has many years of experience advising public and private companies in areas such as business combinations, stock compensation and SEC reporting. Katina also has expertise serving the portfolio companies of private equity groups.  Katina is a member of the AICPA, UACPA and is a CPA licensed in Utah. Katina graduated from Westminster College of Salt Lake City with a BA in Accounting and received her Masters of Professional Accountancy from Brigham Young University. Katina is the Chair of the Board of directors of Special Olympics Utah and an Associate Professor at the University of Utah. She is also a member of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce Capitol Club and participates regularly in events for the MountainWest Capital Network and Utah Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth.

Linda Feller, Vice President, Advantage Workers Comp Insurance Company

Linda Feller is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Advantage Workers Compensation Insurance Company. She joined Advantage in September 2005, and came to the company from Select Portfolio Servicing, a $200+ million national mortgage servicing company, where she was Vice President and Assistant Controller.  Prior to that, Linda was Controller at STSN, a telecommunications start-up and, before that, spent over 10 years with American Stores Company, a fortune 100 public retail company where she had many responsible assignments including Director of Financial Reporting, internal audit and division financial manager.  Linda is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of the University of Utah with both a B.S. in Accounting (Magna cum laude) and an MBA.  Ms. Feller holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, and is a member of the CPCU professional association.  She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Richard N. Greene is managing member of the Salt Lake City CPA firm of Savas Greene & Company, LLC. The firm’s practice is limited to taxation and business consulting. Mr. Greene received a B.S. degree from the University of Utah and a Masters Degree in professional accounting from the University of Texas.  Mr. Greene is engaged in general tax practice and handles planning and controversy issues involving federal and state taxation including individuals, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and tax exempt organization. In particular, he advises owners of closely-held business entities in terms of compliance, formation, acquisition, distributions and related estate planning matters. He also consults with clients regarding successful planning and related wealth transfer issues. Mr. Greene is a member of the American Intitute of Certified Public Accountants and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accounts.  Mr. Greene has chaired the annual Tax Symposium for the UACPA and spoken in various conferences.

Mary Kay Griffin graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and has over 30 years CPA experience. In 1986 she became a founding partner of Foote, Passey, Griffin and Company which merged with CBIZ in 1999. Her practice emphasis is in the areas of taxation, financing accounting, and business consulting. In addition to her serving her tax and business clients, she is a member of the National Executive Board for CBIZ Women’s Advantage.

Timothy Kenny, Senior VP & General Auditor, Freddie Mac, Washington DC

Timothy Kenny became Freddie Mac's senior vice president and general auditor in July 2008.  In this position, Kenny supervises the Internal Audit Department, which is responsible for all internal audit activities and coordinating audit practices and procedures with Freddie Mac’s external auditor.  Prior to this, Kenny served as the company’s vice president and interim general auditor.  He joined Freddie Mac in September 2007.  Kenny is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He holds a B.S. in accounting from the University of Utah.  He was a member of the board of directors of Farmer Mac serving on its audit and corporate governance committees.  He also served on the board of directors of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington.  Kenny currently serves on the Board of Directors, Northern Virginia Family Services and The University of Utah School of Accounting Advisory Board.

Cheri Landgren, Owner, Cheri Landgren & Associates

Cheri Landgren is the founder of Cheri Landgren & Associates, a financial services consulting firm.  Cheri provides a wide-range of audit and regulatory compliance services to the financial institution sector. Cheri has over 20 years of banking expertise working as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer in both state and federally chartered banks. Cheri began her career as an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers, after her graduation from the University of Utah. She has been President of the Utah Association of Financial Services, a board member of the Utah Bankers Association, and President of the American Woman's Society of Certified Public Accountants of Utah.  She is a member of the David Eccles School of Business Accounting and Information Systems Advisory Board and a board member of Junior Achievement of Utah.

 

David Lemmon, Board of Directors – Energy Industry 

Dave Lemmon is a 40-plus year veteran of the U.S. energy industry. Former President and CEO of Colonial Pipeline, he currently serves on the Boards of Directors for Deltic Timber Corporation, Teekay Offshore Partners, MLP, the Kirby Corporation, and was a Board member and Chairman of the Audit Committee for Pacific Energy Partners, MLP, from 2002 to its sale in 2006.  Committed to excellence in leadership inside and outside the energy industry, Mr. Lemmon has served on the American Petroleum Institute’s Board of Directors, the API Public Policy Committee, as past-chairman of its Pipeline Segment Executive Committee, a board member of the National Council of Economic Education, and a member of the Battelle Energy Advisory Committee.   He was on the Northwestern University Business Advisory Committee for 15 years, and was a guest faculty member at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.  A native of Afton, Wyoming, Mr. Lemmon earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Utah.  He did postgraduate work at Governors State and Northwestern Universities in Illinois and completed executive studies in transportation at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Kim McReynolds, Managing Partner, Mantyla McReynolds, LLC

Kim McReynolds is one of Mantyla McReynolds’ founding members and is our managing partner. Kim has extensive experience in many industries, including, grocery chains, manufacturing, broker/dealers, title companies, oil and gas, medical professional practices, construction, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate development and investment.  Kim graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting in 1979, and has 32 years of business experience. Because he is so old, there are few things in business he hasn't seen. It's rare indeed when he can't draw from personal experience to help a client or staff member with a challenge. Kim has extensive experience in many industries, including, grocery chains, manufacturing, broker/dealers, title companies, oil and gas, medical professional practices, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate development and investment. In the late 1980s, Kim took a diversion from public accounting and served for five years as CFO and COO of a NASDAQ-traded public company. His duties included all of the reporting responsibilities to the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC"). The drafting of the Forms 10Q and 10K, and all communications with the SEC, also came under his purview.

Stephen Parks, Questar Corporation – retired

Stephen E. Parks retired as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Questar Corporation on June 30, 2009.  Mr. Parks joined Questar in 1974 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 1995.  He provided leadership for the treasury, accounting, tax, investor relations and internal audit areas.  During his career with the company, he has gained experience with the oil and natural gas exploration and production, midstream field services, interstate gas transmission, and retail gas distribution industries.  He has served in executive and board positions in private companies in the telecommunications and data-hosting industries.  He served as a Board Director for Questar Exploration and Production Company, Wexpro Company, and currently is a director for Pioneer Theatre Company.  Mr. Parks was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Utah.  Institutional Investor Magazine recognized Mr. Parks with its “America’s Best CFO” award for the natural gas industry in 2006, 2007 and 2008.  Questar Corporation, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a natural gas-focused energy company with five major lines of business – oil and gas exploration and production, midstream field services, energy marketing, interstate gas transportation and storage, and retail gas distribution.  Questar had fiscal 2008 sales of $2.8 billion and at year end had an $8 billion enterprise value.

Gregory P. Randall serves as the Office Managing Partner for KPMG in the Salt Lake City office.  Greg is an Audit Partner and has 19 years experience in public accounting, serving a variety of both publicly traded and privately held enterprises, providing auditing, financial reporting, and Securities and Exchange Commission compliance services. He has provided auditing and accounting services to a variety of industries including high tech, manufacturing, retail and entertainment, investment funds, and the federal government.  Greg earned his BS in Accounting from the University of Utah. He started his accounting career with KPMG in 1993 and was promoted to Partner in 2004. He serves on the Accounting Department advisory Board for David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.  In 2008 he was honored as one of Utah Business’ 40 under 40.

Michael Reichert has over 25 years of public accounting experience with Deloitte & Touche, specializing in the identification of innovative tax planning opportunities and alternatives for his clients’ business needs.  While currently the global managing tax partner of our high tech practice, Mike has practiced in several other client service locations as well, including his Firm’s Washington D.C. National Tax practice office where he chaired the development of intellectual property. Mike has extensive experience supporting his clients efforts to mitigate their overall effective tax rates and improve operating cash flow.  In addition to appearing as one of Euromoney’s World’s Leading Tax Advisers, Mike has also been included in the International Tax Review’s survey of leading Tax Advisers in North America on numerous occasions

Greg Smith, Tax Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP: Washington DC

Greg W. Smith is a tax partner with PwC's Private Company Services (PCS) practice in the Washington, D.C. Metro area.  Greg serves private clients in the construction, real estate, government contracting and professional services industries as well as foreign inbound clients. Greg is an alumnus of Utah State University graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Masters of Accountancy degree with an emphasis in Taxation.  While working towards his Masters degree at the U, Greg joined the Salt Lake City office of PwC (Coopers &Lybrand) as a tax associate.  Greg worked in that office until the Fall of 1997 where he was selected to join PwC's Washington National Tax Services (WNTS) Transactions Group as a senior tax associate.  While at WNTS, Greg concentrated on developing a comprehensive tax expertise in the Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) area, specializing in the taxation of S Corporations.  After four years in the WNTS M&A group, Greg joined the Washington, D.C. Metro PCS practice as a senior tax manager in 2001.  He was admitted to the partnership in 2006.  Greg currently co-leads the Washington, D.C. Metro PCS practice (approximately 85 professionals) with five other partners.  Greg is a licensed CPA in Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland.  Greg is also a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a current co-author of the BNA Tax Management Portfolio "S Corporations - Formation and Termination."

Stan VanderToolen, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP

Stan VanderToolen is a CPA practicing in the tax department of the Salt Lake City office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.  Stan has over eighteen years of experience in public accounting where he has specialized in providing tax consulting and compliance services for a variety of industries including direct-selling, manufacturing, real estate, technology and transportation in both the public and private sector.  Throughout his career, Stan has been involved with creative tax planning for his clients.  Stan has also been involved with several initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, roll-ups, etc.

Prior to joining PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Stan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Utah in June of 1989.  He subsequently received a Master of Accountancy with an emphasis in taxation, from Brigham Young University in December of 1990.  Stan is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants.  Stan has served on many other non-profit boards and committees including Ballet West, Pioneer Theater Company, Primary Children’s Hospital – Planned Giving, University of Utah, University of Utah Young Alumni, and Utah Arts Festival.

Henry VanTienderen, CPA graduated from the University of Utah in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, magna cum laude.  He is the managing shareholder and founder of VanTienderen, Carter & Bolander, P.C., an accounting firm located in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.  Prior to starting this accounting firm in 1987, he worked for Arthur Andersen & Co., and for Haynie & Co.

 

Allen Westergard, Partner, KPMG, Washington DC

Allen Westergard has over 29 years experience including both  at KPMG and  in executive finance and accounting positions with corporate companies. Allen’s corporate positions include VP-Finance/Controller of Thrifty PayLess Drug Stores Inc. and CFO of  both SkyMall  and Asbury Automotive Group where he managed and negotiated buy and sell side transactions and business integration projects. He has directed transaction buy-side and sell-side advisory services including acquisition structuring, operational and financial due diligence, purchase negotiation support, purchase price disputes and post-merger integration. Allen has also provided expert testimony regarding transactions.  Allen has experience within the following industries: Consumer and industrial markets, Aerospace and defense/Government contracting, Media and communications; and Private equity. Allen has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah and is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Chad Whitehead, Partner, Assurance Services Ernst & Young, San Diego

Chad Whitehead is an audit partner in our Life Sciences Practice. Chad has over 16 years of experience serving public (ranging from small to large multi-national) and venture backed clients in the life sciences, technology and media and entertainment industries. Chad relocated to San Diego from the EY London office after finishing a three-year assignment where he served as the United Kingdom Biotech/Medtech leader from 2008-2010. During his assignment in London, Chad was very active in presenting EY Thought Leadership to various biotech and medtech organizations including BIA, OBN, LBN, and Medtech UK. In 2006, spent 1 ½ years in the EY Global Biotechnology Center in Boston where he created several pieces of Thought Leadership. Prior to his assignment in London, Chad spent five years in the Bay Area serving mid-market companies and also some of the firm’s largest biotechnology and technology clients. Chad has also worked in Ernst & Young’s Salt Lake City (where he started) and Buenos Aires offices.   Chad serves on the Board of the San Diego Chapters of Junior Achievement, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Accounting Board of the University of Utah. Chad received a B.A. in Accounting and MBA both from the University of Utah. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Brandon Wilcox, Audit Partner, KPMG, Denver

Brandon Wilcox is an audit partner in KPMG’s Denver office.  He focuses on providing audit services to financial services and high technology companies and has deep international experience, having served various multinational clients in both the United States and Germany. He has been with KPMG since 1997. Brandon has significant experience managing audit engagements, interfacing with key client personnel, overseeing and reviewing work completed by engagement managers, Audit senior associates, and Audit associates; coordination with other offices and auditors; and auditing specific high-risk technical audit areas in the financial services and high technology industries.  Located in Munich, Germany from 2006 to 2009, Brandon has served as a technical accounting partner for several clients and has worked with large SEC registrants undergoing U.S. GAAP to IFRS conversions, and is a designated IFRS reviewing partner.  He brings insight with respect to SEC filings, reviewing responses to SEC comment letters, consents, and comfort letters, as well as various technical accounting matters and audits of internal control in accordance with PCAOB standards. Brandon has a BA degree in accounting from the University of Utah and is a Licensed CPA in California and Colorado.
