Society of Human Resources Management Student Chapter Earns Award

 

The Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) has announced that the University of Utah student chapter at the David Eccles School of Business has been awarded the organization’s Merit Award for outstanding performance.

The Merit Award is given by the SHRM to recognize university student chapters that have developed effective student groups and promoted noteworthy activities and projects. The University of Utah chapter was recognized at the SHRM 2012 Annual Student Conference this summer.

Receiving the Woman CPA of the Year Award is Betsy Rafael, Corporate Controller and Principal Accounting Officer of Apple, Inc.; Educator of the Year is Dr. Martha Eining, CPA, of the University of Utah; the Lead By Example Award, will be presented to the Seattle office of Moss Adams, LLP; and the Innovation in Women’s Programming Award, to be presented to Deloitte LLC.

Research Shows Consumers Are Savvy to Scripted Service

Consumers find themselves involved with scripted customer-service encounters every day as businesses strive to provide consistent levels of quality service and customer satisfaction, whether it is the check-in process at a high-priced hotel or being asked “Do you want fries with that?” with each visit to a fast-food drive-thru. 

While such scripted encounters have been studied from the businesses’ perspectives to make the interactions more efficient and the businesses more profitable, rarely have they been explored from the perspective of the customers, until now.

Utah Joins Top 10 Rankings for Most Popular Business Schools

The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business has joined the U.S. News & World Report list of the top 10 most-popular business schools in the nation.

Joining the coveted rankings for the first time, the school is 10th and joined such renowned campuses as top-ranked Harvard, No. 2 Pepperdine and No. 3 Stanford. In all, 132 business schools countrywide were reviewed for the U.S. News & World Report Short List based on their “yield rate,” or the percentage of full-time applicants accepted who end up enrolling at specific institutions.

Governor and the U to Celebrate State's Entrepreneurial Spirit

The University of Utah and Governor Gary Herbert have entered into a partnership to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship during the week of Sept. 26-30.

Activities revolve around the declaration by Governor Herbert, himself a former small business owner, declaring today the state’s official Entrepreneurship Day. That proclamation was made at 11:30 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda, followed by a reception hosted by the accounting firm of Ernst & Young.
