I’m sure you’ve heard it said before. Education is an investment in the future. Studies demonstrate how having a secondary degree will increase your income potential, as well as help you in finding employment.

Within the last year, those with business degrees are highly sought after for employment. Knowing these factors, one might ask how to maximize their return on investment.

Dean Randall discusses the value of a David Eccles School of Business degree, and highlights the key differentiators that will help David Eccles students succeed not only in their education, but excel in their careers.

Randall says, “Fundamentally, we pride ourselves as a nation of innovators.” Indeed, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to stimulate the economy with new job creation. Whether a student is interested in starting a company, innovate technology, or improving a process, the David Eccles School of Business has created an educational program that teaches students how to capitalize on those ideas to find success.

Through professional centers, such as The Foundry, The Pierre Lassonde Entrepreneur Center, and the Sorenson Center for Discovery and Innovation, graduates and undergraduates are exposed to real-world processes to launch their creativity and are given a foundation on which to build success.

Experiential Learning is also key to providing a groundwork for success. The wide breadth of opportunities from every academic area in the David Eccles School of Business allows students the chance to learn in a low-risk environment, but have a strong resume for graduation.

Everything from Field Studies to competitions such as the Utah Real Estate Challenge and the Utah Entrepreneur Series offers the opportunity for students to build leadership, master team-building, and demonstrate how they solve real-world problems. Ruchi Watson, Associate Director for Experimental Learning in the MBA Program says, “Students are able to build stronger resources and ties to the community.” Watson goes on to say, “Graduates from our program are day one ready, which brings more companies to campus to recruit because they know the students will be able to ask the right questions and climb the learning curve faster.”  Contact Ruchi Watson if you’d like information on ways you or your company can help to strengthen the community ties with the David Eccles School of Business.

Our professors and faculty are thought leaders in the field which is another important step to turning out a successful graduating class. Dean Randall adds, “Students are learning information that is five to ten years ahead of the text books.” Our professors collaborate with businesses in industry. They then bring back those experiences to share in the classroom giving students a unique look at what challenges businesses are facing right now. Faculty are researching and helping to frame policy and practice providing students with cutting-edge information allowing them to be more desired after graduation.

The David Eccles School of Business also has a strong network of alumni working with students to help them become more marketable and more connected in the workforce. Students are able to meet with alumni through activities such as Smart Start for undergraduates and Connect U for graduates.  The strength of our network continues as we build clubs throughout the United States, Norway, and China.

Putting this all together in a state-of-the-art learning facility on a destination campus has helped the David Eccles School of Business become more competitive. This past fall, the Princeton Review recognized the school’s outstanding commitment to entrepreneurs.  These rankings are just one way to demonstrate why the students at the David Eccles School of Business will succeed after graduation.
