U of U Professional MBA Program Adds International Elective Course with International Travel Component
SALT LAKE CITY—The Professional MBA program at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business today announced its first-ever international elective course with an international travel component. The inaugural course will be held during the spring and summer 2012 semesters. The course is divided into two modules: a five-week classroom experience and a one-week immersive business excursion.
The first five weeks will consist of an in-depth, four-hour classroom discussion, held from 6-10 p.m. one night each week, focusing on a single region of the world. This portion of the elective will expose students to the history and the current economic, political, social, and cultural context of the selected region. The course is designed to teach students how to assess a country’s economic, political, social/cultural, institutional and business environment; their implications business decisions and strategies; the effects of risk, uncertainty and volatility, and how these factors affect business decisions; and the challenges and opportunities of doing business in the current global environment.
To put their classroom experience to the ultimate test, students will embark on a one week international business learning trip. Students will experience a mix of executive and expert presentations and company site-visits, which will expose them to a variety of perspectives on business in the context of the country they are visiting.
“We created this international elective to provide students in the Professional MBA program with a rich, hands-on international experience by immersing them in the dynamic business environment and practices of another country,” said Brad Vierig, associate dean of executive education for the David Eccles School of Business.
The University of Utah’s Professional MBA Program is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report and Bloomberg BusinessWeek as the No. 1 part-time MBA program in Utah and top 50 in the U.S.
