U of U Master of Real Estate Development Program Accredited by CCIM Institute
The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business today announced its Master of Real Estate Development program has received the prestigious CCIM Institute accreditation.
Gaining the CCIM’s recognition places the school’s MRED offering among the nation’s elite professional real estate masters programs, including masters’ degrees offered by Columbia, Cornell, Auburn, DePaul and Clemson universities. The CCIM Institute, the commercial affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, grants accreditation only to those institutions which meet rigorous academic and curriculum standards.
“This is a pretty big deal in the real estate industry,” said Buzz Welch, director of the Ivory Boyer Real Estate Center of the David Eccles School of Business. “This will provide our students with a true advantage in the industry upon graduation.”
MRED’s entire curriculum was accepted for student credit toward the institute’s Certified Commercial Investment Member designation – the gold standard for recognition of real estate expertise.
Now that MRED’s curriculum has been accredited by the institute, program graduates will receive 75 percent of the credit needed toward qualifying for CCIM status. “All that will remain for an MRED graduate is to complete a four-day class that is essentially a professional project case study course . . . demonstrate adequate work experience and pass the CCIM exam,” Welch said.
The David Eccles School of Business Master of Real Estate Development degree is one of only a relative handful of such programs offered in the United States. The MRED curriculum is designed for students coming from multiple disciplines, such as urban planning, finance, entrepreneurship, architecture, engineering, law, and many other professional backgrounds.
