For more than two decades, the David Eccles School of Business has been honored to host the Spencer Fox Eccles Convocation, which features speakers who exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit of David Eccles while presenting current issues in business.
Spencer Fox Eccles was instrumental in securing the $15 million endowment given to the business school in 1991 by his aunt, Emma Eccles Jones, the last surviving child of David Eccles. The business school is named after David Eccles, honoring his achievement as a pioneer industrialist and entrepreneur in the Intermountain Region at the turn of the century.
The David Eccles School of Business is excited to welcome Nolan D. Archibald, Executive Chairman of the Board of Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. as our guest speaker on October 4, 2012. Alumni, students, faculty, and the community are invited to attend the event, which begins at 11 a.m. and goes until noon.
Until the recent merger with Stanley Works, Nolan was Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of the Black & Decker Corporation. Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. is an $11 billion, global corporation, marketing its products in more than 100 countries.
When appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Black & Decker in March 1986 at the age of 42, Nolan was the youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 Company. He served as CEO for Black & Decker for 24 years. He has been cited by Business Week as one of the top six managers in the United States and by Fortune Magazine as one of the country’s “10 Most Wanted” executives.
Nolan graduated from Dixie State College, where he was an honor student and a Junior College All-American basketball player; Weber State University; and Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA.
