Ok, so it has been awhile since I posted here and it is tragic because so much has happened. So to kind of catch you all up I think I need to share somewhat of a laundry list of things that you may find valuable in any decision you might make about the MRED. In no particular order, here goes:

Did you know that 60-85% of jobs are found through networking? That’s incredible! I remember trying to find engineering jobs after I graduated with my first Engineering Degree. Biological Engineering is not as widespread as other engineering disciplines, so it’s not like people are waving signs for job openings on street corners for Biological Engineers when you graduate. So how does one find a job in a smaller job market or greatly improve their chance of finding a good job in a large job market? Networking!

While we have a number of fine resources online about the MSF program there are always more questions about the program, and sometimes those are hard to track down. So in an effort to get some more of that information out here are a few answers to some recent questions I've had asked:

Will the MSF program accept GRE scores?
Yes we will, we convert your GRE over to GMAT score. Though if you haven't taken either I would take the GMAT.

Application Deadline has passed can I still apply?
Yes however scholarships and assistant positions go quickly so it is best to apply by the deadline.

Fall for accounting students means it is recruiting time. Most accounting firms do the bulk of their hiring during the fall, so as an accounting student this is the best time to look for a job or internship opportunity. Although the public transportation in Salt Lake City and in the campus can meet most students’ daily needs, buying a car is still a good choice for international students. Here I will show the process of getting Utah driver license. More official information can be found from the Utah Driver License Division website: http://publicsafety.utah.gov/dld/index.html

    1. If you have a driver license from other countries.

Typically, when I hear something repeated in a class I pay special attention to it because it usually means it is important. When I hear the same point in multiple classes I know that I am expected to know it and it will be important everywhere. Several of our professors here have severally in different classes made the same point in the past several weeks; and that is on some of the potential dangers in data mining.

During our first semester, we MBA students take the Career Strategies course. This is a course that is taught and coordinated by experienced professionals from the Business Career Services center and is intended to help the students fill their job-searching and job-securing toolbox. This course should be a part of ANY major, because the things that are covered are applicable to any career field. I will mention several of the things covered in this course, and by the end of this blog, I think you'll agree with me on the value of this course.

Study is the most important part for every student at the university and it’s also the most difficult part. For newcomers, especially for international students, they may find it is difficult to adapt to the different study environment quickly. If you are a new international student, here are some things you may want to know to help you adapt here more quickly.

Three weeks ago Corey Johnson, an MRED from Columbia University spoke to us about his role at Wasatch Advantage as an acquisition manager for the largest apartment developer in the state of Utah. He was clear, open and just technical enough to stretch my understanding without being too over the top.

Recently I was asked to put together all of the benefits of the MRED program so that a prospective student could see exactly what they can get out of the program.  I thought I would share those benefits with all of you here:
