MSIS Capstone Project Overview
The MSIS Capstone Project gives students the rare chance to work on real-world projects while still in school. Most projects are real work being done for real companies, and much of the output from past MSIS Capstone Projects is still in use by the client firm. Students work on their Capstone Projects for the full-length of their MSIS schooling; this is much more significant than a mere semester-long task.
Students begin work on Capstone Projects by forming groups of two to five students during their first semester. Groups identify projects in several ways. Some groups find projects by discussing ideas with professors. Others reach out to local companies (who are often only too pleased to receive a bit of IT help!) Finally, because many of our students are working professionals, students often have their own ideas for projects that can improve operations at their own job. Groups frequently discuss two or three different project options, and work in conjunction with faculty to identify the most promising project.
Groups then work to execute on project tasks, and directly apply lessons from MSIS coursework. Near graduation, each group must give a 40 minute presentation to the faculty, other MSIS students, and any industry professionals who should choose to attend. Groups must also submit a written executive summary on the details of your work.
