What is the application deadline?

For Fall 2010 entrance to the program, the application deadline to the University of Utah Graduate School is December 15, 2009.  The application deadline to the David Eccles School of Business is January 15, 2010.

 

How do I apply?

Prospective students must apply to BOTH the University of Utah Graduate School AND the David Eccles School of Business. Application information and instructions can be found on the application procedures website:  www.business.utah.edu/display.php?pageId=2935.

 

What should I submit?

Materials for the Graduate School Application include the Graduate School Application Form, Application Fee, Official Transcripts, and TOEFL scores.  Materials for the PhD Program Application include PhD Program Application Form, goals statement, 3 recommendation letters with reference forms, official GRE or GMAT scores, and any additional materials such as resume.

What test scores do I need?

To apply to our program, you must take the Graduate Records Exam (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) by January of the year you would like to begin.  Tests must be no more than five years old.  We generally look for scores of 650 or above.

International applicants, whose native language is not English, must submit TOEFL scores of 600 or higher and must be taken within 2 years of application. The TOEFL can be waived for international applicants holding a degree from a U.S. institution or an institution in an English speaking country. International applicants, whose native language is not English, must also take the Versant test prior to starting the PhD program.  Accepted student take the test at the University of Utah prior to the first fall semester of the program.  It is only valid here at the University of Utah.

 

Do you require an advanced degree?

No, we do not require an advanced degree.

 

Do I need to apply for financial assistance?

You do not need to apply separately for financial assistance.

 

What kind of assistance and benefits do you offer?

Admitted students receive a four-year assistantship, research account, individual health insurance, and a four-year tuition benefit. The assistantship for 2009-2010 is $20,000.

 

How long is the program?

The program generally takes 4-5 years of full time study.

 

Can I keep my job and still pursue a PhD?

As our PhD program is full time, students cannot work while enrolled in the program.

 

What will make me a successful candidate?

Successful applicants usually have GMAT/GRE scores of 650 or higher and undergraduate GPA's of 3.3 or higher.  It is not possible to estimate your chances for admission to the program without information contained in the application and supporting documents.

 

How many students do you accept?

All of our areas of specialization are very selective and admit on average one to three students per year.   For fall 2009 we had a total of 185 applicants.

 

What kinds of programs do you offer?
