Timeline:
1896: Business education begins at the University of Utah as part of the Economics and Sociology Department.
1917: University establishes the School of Commerce and Finance.
1936: Becomes one of the first colleges in the nation to receive the highest level of accreditation available from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
1955: Launches MBA program, one of the first west of the Rocky Mountains.
1966: With enrollment approaching 1,600, school moves to its current complex -- the Business Classroom Building, Kendall D. Garff Building, and the Francis Armstrong Madsen Building.
1991: Emma Eccles establishes a $15 million endowment to honor the legacy of her father, David Eccles (1849-1912), one of the state's leading entrepreneurs who is credited with establishing 48 throughout Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming. The school is named the David Eccles School of Business.
2000: C. Roland Christensen Center opens to provide broad access to technology and space for students to study and interact.
2006: Canadian philanthropist and alumnus Pierre Lassonde donates $13.25 million to create the largest entrepreneur center in the United States.
2007: The Sorenson Legacy Foundation donates $6 million to create an interdisciplinary center for the study of discovery and innovation.
2008: Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center is dedicated to provide education and experience in corporate real estate development.
The Pierre Lassonde Entrepreneur Center opens doors in new facility at Fort Douglas.
2009: Groundbreaking is scheduled for a 188,681 square-foot, state-of-the-art building to accommodate educational and research needs.
