Accountants face a rapidly increasing level of education required for success in the profession. This trend is particularly pronounced in public accounting and taxation. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, Utah Association of CPA's and many other professional organizations strongly endorse graduate accounting education. In response to these demands, the School of Accounting offers the Master of Accounting (MAcc) degree.

The MAcc program builds on students’ previous undergraduate studies in accounting and explores the intricacies of the field.  We emphasize the technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and communication skills essential to successful accounting careers.  We also help support our students financially as well as academically.  Recently, nearly half of all MAcc students received financial aid.

Three areas of emphasis:

  • Tax
  • Information Systems
  • Financial Accounting/ Auditing

Full-Time Program:

The full-time program allows students choose any of the three tracks and complete the required courses (17 credits) and elective courses (15 credits) to total 32 credits over the course of 2 semesters.

Work Friendly Program:

The work friendly Master of Accounting (MAcc) Program is the same high quality 32 credit hour program offered for years, but is now available as a part-time program to accommodate a full-time work schedule.

Students interested in the Audit Track will be able to complete courses in the evenings and early mornings over the course of 5 semesters.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree at an accredited U.S. college or its equivalent in another country.

  • An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, based on all undergraduate work. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated on the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of the undergraduate work for admission consideration. (See Frequently Asked Questions regarding GPA's below 3.0.)

  • Results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Tests older than five years will not be accepted.

  • If your native language is not English, or you did not receive your degree in an English-speaking country, you must earn a TOEFL score of 250 on the computer-based version or 600 on the paper-based version.
